10-Year-Old Hands Out Homemade Lunches To Homeless In Massachusetts Every Week

While most 10-year-old probably spent their summers at camp or Disney World, one Massachusetts boy spent his months away from school helping his community.

Liam Hannon has handed out 300 homemade lunches to homeless people in his hometown of Cambridge.

Liam’s Father, Scott Hannon, helped him with his honorable goal, saying his son has a “huge heart.”

“It makes me really proud as a dad,” Hannon told ABC News. “Plus, it was something nice we could do together as father and son and with my wife and baby.”

At the beginning of the summer, Liam approached Hannon to inform him of his desire to do community service. Soon after, father and son were packing bagged lunches for those in need.

The project, dubbed “Liam’s Lunches for Love,” includes bags containing bottles of water and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Every week, Hannon, Liam and his 1-year-old sister, Charlie, would walk around Cambridge giving them to the homeless.

Liam greets everyone he gives lunches to.

“Many of the people we help are actually really nice and could use just a little kindness in their lives,” Liam said. “We really need more volunteers so we can spend a little more time with each customer. It just feels really good to help.”

The family initially funded the meals themselves but have since set up a GoFundMe page for those who would like to donate to the cause.

The good deeds don’t stop with the bagged lunches, either. Liam and his father have been working with the Hildebrand Family Self Help Center in Cambridge to collect school supplies for more than 400 homeless children.
