Boy Gets a New Bionic Arm and ‘Loves That He Can High-Five Everyone!’
When you’re a kid giving out high-fives to your pals is a big deal. After all, some adults are guilty (wink, wink!) and still try and be “cool” and do it too! So, when 8-year-old Freddie Cook of Berkshire, England received his new bionic arm, he couldn’t have been happier to partake in normal “kid stuff.”
Cook, who was born without his right hand, is super-excited to be able to use both hands to do all of his favorite things. He joyously rang in his eighth birthday with the best gift, a custom-made bionic arm. He reportedly was the youngest person in the world to use the design! So awesome!
One of the best things he got to do on his birthday was to eat a burger with two hands for the first time in his life – an action that most able-bodied people take for granted. The determined little boy has also been able to grip both handlebars on his scooter and play with his dog, Lacie.
The modern prosthetic is custom-built for Cook’s arm, and it “fits like a glove.” While he’s still in the strengthening process, it’s been an incredible journey thus far. “I was so excited to use my new arm,” he said enthusiastically. “It has let me do loads of new things with my friends and play like anyone else. I love that I can high-five everyone and shake my mum’s hand.”
