It’s safe to say Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, has a lot of jewelry. There are rings, bracelets, brooches, tiaras, and so much more. As a result of our growing interest in this powerful woman, it makes sense that we will want to know the story behind some of her significant shiny baubles.

Her Engagement Ring

One of the most interesting gifts given to Queen Elizabeth was her engagement ring. In fact, this three-carat diamond ring, which was a present from Prince Philip, was so special that the Queen hardly ever took it off.

The diamonds were originally part of a tiara owned by Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, who was Queen Victoria’s great-granddaughter.

When Princess Alice found out her son was about to propose in 1946, she gave him the tiara and granted him permission to dismantle it so he can create a ring fit for a Queen.

The prince took the tiara to London jeweler Philip Antrobus Ltd. who designed the beautiful diamonds into an even more gorgeous ring.

Her Wedding Bracelet

The London jeweler, who helped turn Prince Philip’s mother’s tiara into a ring, was also able to make a large diamond bracelet from the tiara. The sparkling gem served as the Prince’s wedding gift to the Queen.

According to reports, Prince Philip was very involved in the creation of these pieces of jewelry. In fact, he was very specific and described exactly what he wanted.

In the seven decades since the couple has been married, the Queen has worn her special jewels numerous times. While the Queen was very attached to the ring, she did not mind lending out the bracelet.

Kate Middleton was allowed to wear it at her first state banquet to commemorate the visit of Chinese president Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan in October 2015.

Queen Elizabeth’s Fringe Tiara

A lot of attention has been brought to the Queen’s wedding tiara in recent years. It is also one of the special pieces in the royal collection. This tiara technically belonged to Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother.

Queen Mary dismantled a necklace, which was given to her by Queen Victoria as a wedding present. The new tiara included 47 diamond bars divided by smaller diamond spikes. She gave this tiara to Queen Elizabeth in 1936 who then lent it to her namesake daughter for its history-making appearance atop the bridal veil.

You may have heard about the infamous tiara catastrophe that occurred on Queen Elizabeth’s wedding day to Prince Philip. As soon as the the gem was placed on the bride’s head, it snapped and had to be quickly mended by a jeweler.

91-year-old Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, 96, have been together for more than 70 years and are parents to Charles, Prince of Wales, Anne, Princess Royal, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

There is always so much to learn about the fascinating life and history of the British royal family. Most aspects of their lifestyle hold traditional significance, so naturally, people are intrigued.
