‘Going Gracefully:’ Britain’s Oldest Woman Dies at 112, Her Secret to Longevity Was a Daily ‘Tot of Whiskey’
Many Brits are raising their glasses in honor of Britain’s beloved and oldest woman, Grace Jones, a.k.a. “Amazing Grace,” as she passed away at the incredible age of 112! According to The Telegraph, Jones died peacefully in her sleep – a graceful exit for a woman filled with grace.
“I never dreamt when I was a little girl that my mother would be the talking point of the whole country,” Grace’s daughter, Deidre McCarthy, 81, admitted to the BBC. Jones was the highlight of TV shows, such as ITV News and “Strictly Come Dancing.” “I used to say to my friends: ‘She is a piece of history gift-wrapped.’ She was wonderful and had a lovely sense of humor.”
Born in Liverpool on September 16, 1906 – only five years after the death of Queen Victoria, Jones lived through it all – two world wars, five monarchs, and 26 prime ministers. She was never cynical, but a ray of sunshine and class act with a spunk and zest for life.
“Amazing Grace” credited her longevity to not worrying and a daily dose of Famous Grouse whisky! “Whisky is very good for you,” Jones said in an earlier interview. “I started having a nightly tot of it when I turned 50, so I’ve been having it every night for the last 60 years, and I certainly have no intention of stopping now. My doctor said ‘keep up with the whiskey Grace, it’s good for your heart.’”
