Grandma Shows Grandson Song She Wrote 30 Years Ago—A Year Later, She Hears It—knows What They Did

Robert Smith shared a video on Facebook of a gift he and his son, Travis Smith, gave to his mother. It was a recording of a song she wrote about 30 years ago. To say she was appreciative of the gift would be an understatement.

A few weeks before Christmas Robert proposed an idea to Travis.

The previous Christmas while Robert and his son were visiting his mother they listened to an original song she wrote. According to Robert she had written it and recorded it on a cassette tape 30 years ago.“My grandmother wrote a hit and all she needed was someone to put some vocals to it!” Travis wrote on Facebook. It wasn’t until a few weeks before this past Christmas that Robert got an idea.

Travis was genuinely excited about recording his grandmother’s song.

Once Travis obtained the lyrics to his grandmother’s song, “Fishing in the Sky,” he got to work.The song was ready just in time to be the perfect Christmas gift for his grandmother. The two played it for her and she was moved to tears.

It was only a few seconds into the song when she recognized the song. Her mouth fell to the ground and a big smile spread across her face.But when she heard her grandson sing the first line, “I’ve heard about the streets of gold,” she let out a high-pitched screech and her hands immediately covered her mouth. It was her song, “Fishing in the Sky,” that was playing on the CD player. She was extremely emotional while listening to her song.

She couldn’t believe it. The song she had written and recorded on a cassette tape three decades earlier had been given a new life. And now, thanks to the power of the internet, millions of people have heard her song—a song, which many have commented has given them comfort.
