When you’re a parent, you make big sacrifices for your children that may seem to go unnoticed. Yet when your children grow up and realize all that you have done for them it’s truly a beautiful thing. The parents of Pavin Smith, the first baseman of the Arizona Diamondbacks, felt this recognition when he received his very first paycheck.

Smith, who was 21 years old at the time, was the seventh overall draft pick in the baseball draft. He had signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks and was given a $5 million bonus, which as you can imagine, was a big deal for the young man (or any young man for that matter!).

The first thing that came to mind wasn’t buying a fancy new car, designer clothes or a humungous house, but instead it was paying it forward to his loving parents. So, Smith wrote a touching a letter explaining that his Christmas present to them was paying off their mortgage payment. “Thank you for raising me in a great home filled with love. Because of all the sacrifices you made to get me where I am, I want our family home to be yours,” he wrote.

Smith caught their heartwarming reaction on video. They were overwhelmed with gratitude as the tears streamed down their faces. “What a FANTASTIC young man (As I say this I’m not much older than him) But what a true definition of having no ounce of greed or selfish behavior,” commented a fan online. “What a true testament of family, and love for those around you. To not be greedy, and use your money to pay for your parents’ house, your family home. To make sure your parents always have a roof over their heads.”
