His Wife With Alzheimer’s Vanished in Manhattan, Then A Psychiatric Nurse Sees Poster And Notices An Eerily Familiar Face
Scott and Debreh have been married 24 years. Sadly, four years ago, at the age of 60 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. As a result, she often has difficulty remembering her name and whereabouts.
“Now she’s more like a 6-year-old, so I’ve been relating to her like my child as much as my wife,” Scott told CBC New York. “Lately, the last several months more like she won’t let me out of her sight.”
Debreh Gilbert, 64, was last seen shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday near Broadway and West 110th Street on the Upper West Side, police said.
“Within less than two minutes I was there and usually she’s right behind me and she wasn’t there, wasn’t in the aisle we left her in,” Scott CBC New York. “I ran around like a maniac.”
As the week began, her family and city officials had called on the public’s help to find her, though she — unbeknownst to them — had been discovered Sunday night on 230th Street in the Bronx.
She was admitted under the same name, but due to the different spelling, she stayed at the hospital for nearly two days before a hospital worker realized she was the subject of a search.
The beloved husband and wife were reunited. We love a happy ending!
