On International Women’s Day, you should be listening to the many female voices that have been speaking out and pushing for change.

But it’s also worth taking a look at a now-viral video created by the prefects of Sydney Boys High School, a single-sex school in Australia.

The video features the school’s prefects talking about why feminism is important. But significantly, the words were written by the women in their lives, all of whom have shared their experiences and described why they need feminism.

The stories detail many of the challenges women face, from sexual harassment to being undervalued because of their gender, and body shaming.

“Feminism is important to me because when I was 12, my dad told me I should be ashamed of my body and that I had thunder thighs,” remarked one student.

“Feminism is important me, because I literally cannot run around the block without being catcalled,” another student said.

Considering high school is such a formative time for young men, especially when it comes to their relationships with women, it’s comforting to know some are on the right track.
