Young Mom Who Just Gave Birth, Rings Fire Station Doorbell and Surrenders her Baby

Firefighters face a lot of challenges, triumphs and tragedies as they risk their own lives to save others in raging fires. Yet one night one of the biggest challenges didn’t involve flames, but a blaze of emotion. A young mom rang the doorbell of the Station 75 Fire Department in Santa Ana, California with a newborn in her arms. It was then, the firefighters realized that saving lives comes in many different ways. 

Chief Daryll Milliot answered the fire station door and saw the young mom standing there holding her baby who she had given birth to – just 15 hours earlier. “I need to give you my baby,” she said. That’s when firefighters Daryll Milliot, Michael de Leon, Tyler Green, and Shawn Stacy received the baby girl from the anonymous woman’s arms. “We did our best to compose ourselves, maintain professionalism and do what we needed to do,” Michael de Leon explained.

That unforgettable night, which occurred back in March of 2015, marked the first-ever surrender of a newborn baby to a fire station in Orange County. The firefighters adored the baby and were so happy with how things turned out for her. 

Fast forward nine months and Naomi was adopted and later reunited with her “firefighter angels” who also attended her adoption ceremony. “It’s one of the highlights of my career by far,” added Michael de Leon, Orange County Fire Authority Engineer.
