The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that a child was placed into the care of the Department of Children and Families after being found in the backseat of a car with two passed out adults.

Police say that around 3:15 a.m., Deputy Lewis noticed a parked car in a Circle K parking lot sitting with its driver door open. Inside was a male driver and female front-seat passenger, who were unconscious. The windows of the vehicle were also fogged up, indicating the vehicle had been sitting for an extended amount of time.

The deputy on scene says she saw an infant child, about 8-months-old, asleep in a car seat in the rear middle passenger seat. The child was sweating profusely.

It was clear to the deputy that the baby had not had her diaper changed in some time as the diaper was saturated with fluids and was leaking from the diaper edges around the legs. The car seat was also saturated with fluids from the diaper, indicating the diaper had been leaking for an extended period of time.

The woman was placed under arrest for child neglect. She was also charged with possession of opiates and later transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The male driver was placed under arrest for driving while license suspended. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and later transported to jail.
