The joy of this couple’s engagement was quickly washed away when the ring fell into the water. Cunningham Falls, Maryland, appeared to provide the perfect romantic setting at which to pop the question – but the groom-to-be failed to calculate the risks that come with it.

But suddenly, the man gets down on one knee and asks his girlfriend to marry him. Neither of their words can be picked up, but she clasps her hands over her mouth and gleefully accepts the proposal with a kiss, as cheers of approval can be heard in the background. The heartwarming moment soon turns to disaster though, as the ring falls out of their collective grasp when he is trying to put in on, plunging straight into the fast-flowing stream.

Cries of ‘Oh my God’ can be heard, and the person filming immediately rushes over to assist with the search. They spent more than an hour searching, but they were reportedly unable to locate the jewellery.
