Brenton Sutton was at home with his rottweiler, Roxy, when he heard a knock at his front door. He assumed it was the friend he’d been waiting on, but he should have looked out the window.

On December 30, 2016 it was not a friend knocking on his door, but a group of masked and armed men. Roxy, a friendly pup, ran to the door to greet the company only to be shot my the robbers.

“Roxy was barking at the back sliding glass door which always means someone or something is out in the front yard…” Brenton explained.

“I opened the door and Roxy wedged herself out onto the front step to greet whoever was here as she always does…I saw a light-skinned male that did not look familiar. Before I could react in anyway Roxy got through the front door and was immediately shot from point-blank range, arms-length away from me.”

Hearing the gunshot and Roxy cry out in pain, Brenton immediately slammed the front door closed and sprinted out the back door and jumped over the fence into the neighbors’ yard. Even though he feared for his life, he told his neighbor what was happening and ran back into his home now armed with a knife.

By this stage the burglars were gone but Brenton feared the worst for his companion, “I anticipated the worst and assumed my mama bear Roxy was dead.”

Severely injured, Roxy had been shot in the shoulder but luckily Brenton took her to the vet hospital early enough for treatment.

Now, Brenton is using the GoFundMe platform to raise money to cover the surgery costs. He is also asking people to continue sending their positive thoughts to him and Roxy while hoping that the men who shot Roxy will be caught.
