Firefighters deserve a lot of credit, and for more than just putting out fires!

Their work is very taxing, physically and emotionally. Saving lives is not an easy job, and oftentimes it’s their second job or they are a volunteer!

That is how it all began for William Meredith when he was 16. Back in 1946, you were allowed to volunteer at 16, so he did!

Ever since he began 70 years ago, William has been a valued member of the Langhorne Middletown Fire Department in Pennsylvania. He only took a brief break for two years to fight in the Korean War!

So not only is William a longtime firefighter, he is also a veteran! After his many years of service, William is finally being honored for his hard work.

He still works in the department, and if he ever leaves, he already has a legacy he wants passed down: “That I helped the people. That I did what I could, when I could, however I could,” he said to Fox 29.

Please SHARE William’s story with all your friends and family to honor this hometown hero and all his hard work over the last seven decades!
