Heartbroken New Dad Tells How The ‘Love Of His Life’ Suddenly Had A Heart Attack And Died As He Held Their Newborn Son Hours After She Gave Birth

An overjoyed Louisiana father had wanted to share news on Facebook on Wednesday that his beloved partner had given birth to a healthy baby boy.

But Jean Luc Montou had to instead share a heartbreaking message with family and friends that the love of his life Sarah Bertrand had died.

The tragic Facebook post quickly went viral and was shared more than 25,000 times as Montou told of how the 29-year-old had passed away in front of him as he held their newborn son.

‘Sarah Bertrand didn’t make it. Baby Julian Charles Montou was born at 4.31pm,’ Montou’s post began.

Montou explained that almost 24 hours after giving birth in Moss Bluff, Bertrand had gone into cardiac arrest.

‘The doctors tell me that she had a pulmonary embolism from a blood clot that must have formed during labor. It just happened. She was fine all day and all night before,’ he wrote.

‘My last 24 hours with her was the happiest I’d ever been. I’m not sure why, but I’ve never been allowed to be past a certain point of happiness. I loved this woman like no other and she died in front of me while I held our son.

‘Sarah was the absolute love of my life… She treated me better than I’ve ever been treated in my life by any other woman. She was an angel and the mother of my only son.’

Montou has another daughter Jane who is believed to have been from a previous relationship. He said Bertrand had always looked after the girl as if she was her own.

He has made several emotional posts on Facebook in the days following his partner’s death.
A GoFundMe page set up Montou quickly started trending as he explained that Bertrand did not have life insurance.

He said any donations would go towards his partner’s funeral expenses and to help their newborn son.

‘Sarah wanted everything for Julian and he made her so happy. I had never seen her so strong, so confident, and so joyful as when she held her new baby boy,’ he wrote.

‘She only wanted the best for our son and the least I can do is try to get help, since she won’t be around to do so. While she will be missed so much, I want to honor her memory by raising Julian to be the best man I can make him, but it will be so hard with her sudden loss.’
