Judges Doubt Supermarket Cashier’s Talent, Once She Starts Singing, They Are Absolutely Stunned

Saying that store clerk Mary Byrne was incredibly excited to appear on The X Factor UK for an audition would be the biggest understatement in the world…
The hardworking 50-year-old worked at the cash register of a local Tesco supermarket, but she never stopped dreaming of becoming a star.
In a video posted in August of 2010, Mary said: “I always sing at the till. I have to be told to shut up by the staff. But, what I really want to do is sing. I wanted to be a legend like Shirley Bassey or Tom Jones.”
With her audition set up on the famous talent show, Mary finally had the opportunity to display her vocal abilities to the world and do exactly what she always dreamed of doing. She mentioned that the staff at the supermarket she worked in supported her all the way through her decision to audition to be on the show. Soon, it would be time for this supermarket employee to prove what she’s really worth in the presence of very critical and famous judges Simon Cowell, Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh.
Mary walked onto the terrifyingly large stage and greeted the audience and her judges. They proceeded to ask her to tell them a few facts about her life. She explains how she has been employed at a Tesco supermarket for the last 11 years, but her biggest dream is to sing. She said, “I would love to be a singer. It’s only in the last five years I’ve got the courage back into me to go out and do it.”
“What’s the song?” asked Louis.
She replied: “My song is ‘I Who Have Nothing,’ by Tom Jones.”
“Big song,” he says to her, seemingly unsure if she would be able to handle such a powerful piece of music.
“Let’s hope I do it justice,” joked Mary and puts her game face on, ready to sing. Just a couple of notes in and it becomes clear that this woman’s voice took the judges by complete surprise.
