Different styles of parenthood rule the playground today, and believe it or not mothers- as busy as they are, tend to be the biggest judges of one another. During my pregnancy I was convinced by antenatal leaders that certain things are simply better than others and you have to make an informed decision on how to look after your child. I read a wide variety of contradicting books and struggles to understand why it is so important to conform to a certain “parenting style”.  Gentle/attachment parenting vs Cry it Out theory; disposable vs reusable nappies; bottle vs breast-feeding; buggy vs sling; stay at home vs working moms and the list goes on and on and on. I had made my mind up but when my daughter was born it turned out she had her own ideas of what is best and my original plan had to change – I  not gonna deny I felt deeply embarrassed and judged by others because I was combination feeding and having the buggy out as well as the sling (no one knew thats because my daughter struggled to breastfeed due to tongue tie and as much as I enjoyed ‘baby wearing’ my injured back needed a break every now and then). This advert is very close to my heart and I like to share it with you too as a reminder that regardless of our style and beliefs we are all parents and will do nothing but whats best for the most important person in out lives.

On their website Similac had clearly stated their intentions behind the advert: “We believe it’s time to embrace mothers who choose to embrace motherhood. Time to put down the fingers and the subtle suggestions. Because no two of us are the same, but we’re all in this together. The sisterhood has only one rule. Nourish each other the same way we nourish our children. And, just like the sister who’s got your back, we’re there to help you get through the first few days and months of motherhood with confidence—and zero judgment. The way it should be.”
