A shire horse — a British species of draft horses that look like Clydesdales — named Beatrice, suffered from excruciating abdominal pain due to equine colic. Defeated by the condition, Beatrice called in the stables. Her owners, Donald MacIntyre and wife Jane Lipington, and four other farm workers, unsuccessfully tried to get her back on her feet for over six hours.

Horses are not supposed to stay on the ground for long periods of time, hence the longer she was on the floor “the more at risk she was of succumbing to fatal organ failure.” After trying everything they could think of, yet not being able to lift the horse, her owners had to eventually create a deadline for when they would have to put her down.

Beatrice had only 20 minutes left to live, when Jane decided to let her stablemate, Beau, out for a walk. To everyone’s surprise, he headed straight to Beatrice’s stable. Without hesitation,  Beau reached over the divider and miraculously managed to revive his mate.

Jane said, “We all watched with amazement. He lifted her so that her chest and legs came up off the ground, with a little encouragement from us she got shakily to her feet and we quickly walked her out into the yard trying to stop her falling down.”

Fortunately, Beatrice has made a full recovery and have a long life ahead of her.
