The dramatic event took place across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, one of the longest causeways in the country. A brave man, Alvin Pike, witnessed the devastating crash, causing a pickup truck to careen off the road into the water. Alvin saw the truck sink and the driver float in the water. Without hesitation he jumped in the water in an attempt to rescue the driver and other passengers. Meanwhile, other drivers slowed down traffic and joined forces to help rescue the two men.
