Pamela Morris was leaving her job at St. Vincent Billing department one night and noticed a strange plastic shopping bag near her car on May 1, 2000.

She realised that the bag was moving and assumed there was an abandoned animal inside. What she was not prepare for, was her shocking discovery. Inside the bad, in a bloody towel, there was an abandoned baby girl.

The little girl, known as Baby May, was later adopted by a loving family. Her case is what prompted New England to instate a Baby Safe Haven Law, which allows parents to turn their newborns over at a hospital or fire station without criminal prosecution.

17 years later, Pamela wants to meet the child she saved, even though she realises that it’s possible the teenager may not even know she is adopted or famous.

“I would like to meet her and I hope she sees this, or her parents,” Pamela said in a press conference. “That would be nice. I hope you’re watching, Baby May. I just hope you see this. I wonder what you’re like.”

Despina Drougas, who is a part of the campaign to spread safe-haven-law awareness, hopes that Baby May knows she is a hero.

“We want her to know that everything we have done has been in her honor, ” Despina said. “We all work for her and her legacy.”

Regardless if Baby May decides to remain anonymous or not, her legacy has and will continue to save the lives of infants who deserve a chance at a happiness.
