Young Boy Says Goodbye To His Best Friend, A 17-Year-Old Dog, In An Emotional Video

Through tears, a man records a touching scene as his son sits on the floor petting his best friend BaoBao, a 17-year-old dog, after finding out the poor pup has to be put down due to a crippling accident. In a scene that is all too familiar to many, the little boy cries and asks why he has to let go of his best friend. The father explains that this is the best choice for the dog as it will prevent her from pain later on.

As difficult as it is to make that decision, the love and kindness the family has for the dog gives them the courage to help her avoid further suffering. The accident occurred after the father decided to take a ride on his scooter and grab lunch. As usual, BaoBao hopped into the seat next to him, but at an almost empty intersection, she managed to fall out of her seat. She was tragically struck by a car and severely injured.

“There was only one other vehicle anywhere near me,” wrote the father. “Its rear tire went over BaoBao’s back crippling her and smashing her pelvis. She would have needed extensive surgery and with no guarantee of being able to walk ever again.”

The family is still confused as to how BaoBao fell out of her seat. She has taken many trips on the scooter with her owners, totalling an estimated 200,000 kilometers. A few days earlier, they had returned from a 1,500 kilometer tour, so the dog was very much used to the rides.

“She had just had an amazingly fun week and with her hearing, sight, bladder control all already diminished greatly, I thought it best to not put her through the pain of surgeries and physical therapy,” the father said. “Over the next year or two she would have aged/worsened a lot. So I made the call to put her down while she was still ‘herself’ and not in too much pain.”

Saying farewell to any pet is one of the most difficult things a person can do, but in BaoBao’s situation, it was a gift from the family. At first, the son had difficulty understanding why this had to happen to their adored pup, but ultimately he realized that it was the right thing to do.

“She’ll go to sleep,” the father says to his son in the video. “She’ll wake up with heavenly Father and that’s a good time to go,” he added.

“I’ll miss her,” the son says. “I’ll miss her too,” the father replies.
