101-Year-Old Vet Honored to Commission his Grandson on ‘Best Day of his Life’

Traveling across the country isn’t always easy when you’re 101 years old, but for Walter Kloc, a former pilot in the Army Air Forces, he did it so he could commission his grandson into the Air Force. Heck, if he could still fly as he did back in World War II, he would have chartered a plane himself! 

For the momentous occasion, Kloc flew from Amherst, New York all the way to Colorado to commission his grandson, Joseph Kloc into the Air Force. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as the touching moment unfolded. Joseph was overwhelmed with emotion and called the moment “probably one of the best days of my life” on Facebook. 

As you can imagine Joseph’s father, William Kloc, who accompanied Grandpa Walter on the flight from New York to Colorado, was also floored by the event. “I’m so excited for him,” he told WGRZ. “He’s fulfilling his dream and he was so excited that his grandfather, a World War II Air Force bombardier pilot, could come and commission him.”

The Air Force Academy also shared a series of unforgettable photos on its Facebook page, which many are liking and sharing. In the Facebook post, the Air Force Academy reiterated the magic of the moment. “Walter received a standing ovation, and everyone in the room was gifted with a memory they’ll never forget.”
