Interestingly enough, the ski was invented before the wheel. According to Roland Huntford, author of “Two Planks and a Passion: A Dramatic History of Skiing”, there are cave drawings that suggest that humans used skis during the last ice age in the Paleolithic Period, or about 22,000 years ago. Today skis are very popular, with an estimated 400 million people skiing around the world each year. In this video, director Nick Waggoner and Sweetgrass Productions capture the sport in a new light in the British Columbian and Alaskan backcountry. With skiers wearing multicolored LED light suits and massive lights illuminating the landscape, this video reveals an astonishing new look at a rarely seen landscape.
